Part 1

Rachel thought she was walking into her own home.
Instead, she walked into a mystery that would change everything.
The sun was disappearing behind the marsh when she stepped onto the patio of the luxury estate.
She had expected to find Adam waiting for her.
Instead, the house was strangely quiet.
Rachel stopped.
Eight months pregnant, she placed one hand gently over her stomach.
"Adam?"
No answer.
She looked toward the pool.
The water was perfectly still.
Then she heard a mechanical sound.
Click.
Rachel turned.
A warning light above the pool had switched from green to red.
She frowned.
The estate had an automated pool cover, but Adam had always told her never to activate it while someone was nearby.
Rachel took one step backward.
Then Vanessa appeared from the doorway.
"Rachel."
There was something unusual in her voice.
Rachel looked at her.
"Where's Adam?"
Vanessa didn't answer.
Instead, she glanced toward the control panel.
Rachel followed her eyes.
A countdown had appeared on the screen.
30 seconds.
Rachel's expression changed.
"Why is the pool cover activating?"
Vanessa remained silent.
Rachel moved toward the control panel.
Vanessa stepped in front of her.
"Don't."
Rachel stared at her.
"What are you doing?"
Vanessa looked toward the pool.
The first section of the protective cover began moving across the water.
Rachel immediately understood that something was wrong.
"Stop the system."
Vanessa didn't move.
Rachel reached for the emergency control.
Vanessa caught her wrist.
"Don't touch it."
Rachel pulled her hand away.
"Let me through."
For the first time, Vanessa looked nervous.
Rachel noticed.
She looked at the control panel again.
The emergency button had been covered with a small plastic shield.
Someone had deliberately disabled the normal access.
Rachel's heart began racing.
"Vanessa..."
The cover continued moving.
Rachel stepped backward.
"Who changed the system?"
Vanessa said nothing.
Rachel looked toward the house.
"Where is Adam?"
Still nothing.
Then the sliding doors suddenly opened.
Adam rushed onto the patio.
"Rachel!"
He stopped when he saw the pool.
Then he looked at Vanessa.
"What happened?"
Rachel pointed toward the control panel.
"Someone activated the automatic cover."
Adam immediately ran toward the emergency controls.
"Get away from it."
Vanessa stepped backward.
Adam entered the emergency code.
Nothing happened.
He tried again.
The display flashed:
MANUAL OVERRIDE DISABLED.
Adam stared at the screen.
"What?"
Rachel looked at him.
"Can you stop it?"
"I'm trying."
The cover continued moving.
Adam grabbed his phone.
"I'm calling maintenance."
Vanessa suddenly spoke.
"No."
Adam turned.
"Why not?"
Vanessa's face changed.
She realized she had said too much.
Rachel looked between them.
"Why don't you want him to call anyone?"
Vanessa didn't answer.
Adam's expression became suspicious.
"Vanessa."
She stepped back.
"You don't understand."
"Then explain."
Rachel looked at the control panel.
Something caught her attention.
A small maintenance indicator was blinking.
She moved closer.
There was a notification on the screen.
REMOTE ACCESS SESSION ACTIVE.

Rachel stared at it.
"This isn't being controlled from here."
Adam looked at the display.
"What?"
"Someone is controlling the system remotely."
He immediately checked his phone.
The estate's security application showed an unfamiliar login.
A location appeared beneath it.
Not the house.
Not the maintenance office.
A separate building on the property.
The old guesthouse.
Adam looked toward the marsh.
"Nobody is supposed to be there."
Rachel looked at Vanessa.
"Who has access?"
Vanessa remained silent.
Adam's expression hardened.
"Who has access?"
Finally, Vanessa whispered,
"Your security manager."
Rachel's eyes widened.
Adam froze.
"Daniel?"
Vanessa nodded.
"But Daniel was fired three months ago."
"I know."
"Then how does he still have access?"
Vanessa looked away.
Rachel suddenly understood that Vanessa knew more than she was saying.
The pool cover continued moving.
Adam rushed toward the emergency cabinet.
He opened it and found a second manual release.
But the handle had been removed.
Rachel stared at the empty slot.
"Someone prepared this."
Adam slowly turned toward her.
"What?"
"The emergency release is missing."
He looked inside.
She was right.
The system wasn't malfunctioning.
Someone had deliberately modified it.
The countdown reached ten seconds.
Adam grabbed Rachel's hand.
"Get inside."
"But—"
"Now."
They moved toward the house.
The final section of the cover was almost closed.
Then suddenly—
The entire system stopped.
Silence.
Adam looked at the display.
The screen had gone black.
Rachel exhaled.
For several seconds, nobody moved.
Then a security alarm sounded from inside the house.
Adam ran toward the control room.
Rachel followed.
Vanessa stayed behind.
Inside the security room, every monitor had switched to the same message.
ACCESS DENIED.
Adam stared at the screens.
"Someone is inside the system."
Rachel looked at the camera feed.
One camera was still working.
The image showed the old guesthouse.
The door was open.
A figure stood inside.
Rachel leaned closer.
"Can you zoom in?"
Adam did.
The figure was wearing a dark jacket.
The face was hidden.
Then the person turned toward the camera.
And raised something.
A photograph.
Rachel stared at the screen.
She recognized the photograph immediately.
It was her wedding picture.
But there was something written across it.
A date.
And beneath the date were four words:
ASK YOUR HUSBAND WHY.
Rachel slowly turned toward Adam.
"Why does someone have our wedding photograph?"
Adam didn't answer.
He looked frightened.
Not because of the pool.
Because he knew something Rachel didn't.
She saw it in his expression.
