Emily had spent years enduring IVF treatments before she finally became pregnant.

By the time she reached her eighth month, she believed the hardest part was finally over.

But behind the warm smile and caring gestures, her mother in law, Margaret, had been secretly interfering with her pregnancy.

In front of Emily, Margaret always acted as though she wanted nothing but the best for her. Behind closed doors, however, she constantly applied subtle pressure, making Emily question herself and use things that were forbidden and could affect the care of her pregnancy.

At first, Emily thought Margaret was simply a difficult mother in law.

Then, one day, after everything Emily and her husband had endured through IVF, she lost the baby she had fought so hard to keep.

And that was when Emily discovered what Margaret had been secretly doing.

Crying uncontrollably, Emily confronted her husband and demanded that he face his mother.

Daniel remained silent for a long time.

Finally, he confessed.

“I knew what Mom was doing.”

Emily stared at him in disbelief.

“You knew she was doing this, and you still let her hurt our baby?”

Daniel lowered his head.

After a long silence, he finally said:

“I didn't want to make things worse. She's my mother.”

Those words shattered something inside Emily.

She was devastated.

But she stopped crying.

Instead, she quietly began gathering evidence of everything Margaret had done.

Emily discovered that Margaret hadn't simply wanted to sabotage her IVF treatment.

For years, Margaret had deliberately hidden a secret involving the true origin of the embryo.

The reason she had tried so hard to sabotage Emily's pregnancy was because she wanted Emily to carry the embryo of a mysterious person.

But when Margaret failed to switch the embryo this time, she had no choice but to secretly sabotage the pregnancy so Emily would lose the baby and eventually become pregnant again with the embryo Margaret wanted.

Emily closed the file containing the evidence against her mother in law.

Her hands tightened into fists.

“So she hurt my baby because it wasn't the one she wanted. That cruel woman.”

She clenched her fists even tighter.

“My baby, I swear I'll make that woman and her cowardly son pay for what they did.”

For the first time since losing the pregnancy, Emily did not allow herself to cry.

She sat alone at the kitchen table until midnight, staring at the stack of documents she had collected.

There were pharmacy receipts.

Messages.

Appointment records.

Notes Margaret had sent her.

Copies of medical instructions that Emily had never received directly from her clinic.

And there was something else.

A name.

One name that appeared again and again in documents that had nothing to do with Emily's medical care.

Eleanor Blake.

Emily had never heard the name before.

She searched through every file on her laptop.

Nothing.

She checked old emails.

Nothing.

She searched the name online.

There were hundreds of Eleanor Blakes.

But none appeared connected to her family.

Emily leaned back in her chair.

Why would Margaret have documents containing a stranger's name?

And why had she kept them hidden?

The following morning, Emily made an appointment with the fertility clinic.

She did not tell Daniel.

She did not tell Margaret.

She simply walked into the clinic carrying a folder filled with questions.

Dr. Lauren Hayes had treated Emily throughout most of her IVF journey.

When Emily placed the documents on the desk, the doctor's expression changed.

“What is all this?”

“I need you to tell me the truth,” Emily said.

Dr. Hayes carefully looked through the papers.

“I will answer anything I legally can.”

Emily pointed to one page.

“Who is Eleanor Blake?”

The doctor paused.

For several seconds, she said nothing.

That silence told Emily more than any answer could have.

“You know her.”

Dr. Hayes folded her hands.

“Emily, there are privacy laws that prevent me from discussing another patient's information.”

“I am not asking you to tell me about her medical history. I'm asking why her name appears in documents connected to my treatment.”

The doctor looked at the page again.

Then she slowly removed her glasses.

“I think you should speak with the clinic's records department.”

“Why?”

“Because some of these documents should never have been in your possession.”

Emily felt a chill move through her.

“What do you mean?”

“I mean someone may have accessed records they were not authorized to access.”

That was the moment Emily realized the truth was larger than her mother in law.

Margaret had not simply been meddling in a family matter.

She had been moving information around.

She had been contacting people.

She had been obtaining documents.

And somehow, she had known things about Emily's treatment that even Daniel did not know.

Emily spent the next several days quietly investigating.

She requested copies of her medical records.

She compared dates.

She checked appointment times.

She examined every document she had received from the clinic.

At first, everything appeared normal.

Then she noticed something strange.

One of her earliest treatment summaries had been printed twice.

The first copy contained Emily's patient identification number.

The second contained a handwritten notation in the margin.

The notation was only three words.

“Confirm donor history.”

Emily stared at it.

Her heart began beating faster.

Donor history.

She called the clinic.

The receptionist told her that a records specialist would call her back.
