“And Helen?”

“I didn't know she was involved at first.”

“When did you find out?”

“Six months ago.”

Claire looked toward the window.

“She was the one who told me about the asset plan.”

Sophia's eyes narrowed.

“Then why does the folder say you created the plan?”

“Because I organized the information.”

“You knew what they intended to do.”

“Yes.”

“And you helped them.”

“I thought I could use their plan against them.”

Sophia stared at her.

“That is a dangerous game.”

“I know.”

Claire pulled out another document.

“But I found something you haven't seen.”

She slid it across the table.

Sophia read the first line.

Her face changed.

It was an old legal agreement involving Marcus and Helen.

But Sophia recognized the name of the third person listed.

Her own husband.

There was something else.

A handwritten note attached to the agreement.

Sophia read it slowly.

Then she looked at Claire.

“What is this?”

“I don't know.”

Sophia's voice became quieter.

“You do.”

Claire shook her head.

“I only know that your husband has been lying to you for much longer than either of us realized.”

Sophia stared at the document.

Suddenly, the affair seemed almost secondary.

The financial scheme was bigger.

And whatever Marcus was hiding had started years before Claire entered his life.

That evening, Sophia returned home early.

Marcus was in the study.

He looked surprised.

“You're home.”

“Yes.”

“I thought you had the investor meeting.”

“It was postponed.”

Marcus smiled.

“That's unfortunate.”

Sophia walked toward him.

“Marcus.”

“Yes?”

“Do you love me?”

The question caught him completely off guard.

He stared at her.

“What kind of question is that?”

“Just answer.”

“I've always loved you.”

Sophia nodded slowly.

“Okay.”

Marcus smiled.

“You've been under a lot of stress.”

“Yes.”

She turned away.

“I'm going upstairs.”

Marcus watched her leave.

He had no idea that Sophia had already placed a recorder in the study.

She did not need it for a court case.

She needed to know what he would do when he believed she was vulnerable.

The next morning, Marcus received a message from Helen.

Sophia watched from across the room as he read it.

His expression changed.

He quickly locked his phone.

Sophia smiled.

“What happened?”

“Nothing.”

“Is your mother okay?”

“Yes.”

“Good.”

Marcus left for work.

Sophia followed him from a distance.

Not physically.

Digitally.

She had asked her security team to review the access logs connected to her personal and company accounts.

By the end of the day, they discovered something astonishing.

Someone had been accessing Sophia's private calendar from an unknown device.

The access had started almost a year earlier.

And the device had been registered to a company account.

Claire's.

Sophia stared at the report.

For a moment, she wondered if Claire had lied.

Then she noticed something else.

The device had been accessed from two locations.

Claire's apartment.

And Helen's house.

Sophia understood.

Claire had been spying on them.

But Helen had also been using Claire's access.

The two women had been playing separate games.

And Marcus was caught somewhere between them.

Sophia called Claire.

“We need to meet.”

They met again that night.

Sophia placed the access report on the table.

“You accessed my calendar.”

Claire nodded.

“Yes.”

“And Helen used your access.”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“To see whether you had discovered the asset plan.”

Sophia stared at her.

“So you were watching them while they were watching me.”

Claire nodded.

“I told you I was collecting evidence.”

Sophia leaned back.

“What do you really want?”

Claire looked at her.

“I want the truth.”

“That isn't enough.”

Claire was silent.

Then she finally said:

“I want to clear my father's name.”

Sophia studied her.

“And after that?”

“I don't know.”

Sophia believed her.

Not completely.

But enough.

They formed an uneasy alliance.

Sophia would use her legal team to investigate the financial scheme.

Claire would provide every document she had collected.

Neither woman trusted the other completely.

But both understood that Marcus and Helen had underestimated them.

For the next two weeks, the investigation grew.

They discovered shell companies.

Temporary trusts.

Private agreements.

Hidden communications.

And one final document.

A contract prepared before Sophia and Marcus had even married.

It contained a clause Sophia had never seen.

If the marriage ended under certain circumstances, a portion of Sophia's privately owned assets could be transferred under a separate agreement.

Sophia read the clause twice.

Then she looked at Daniel, her attorney.

“This signature isn't mine.”

Daniel nodded.

“I know.”

“Then someone forged it.”

“Yes.”

Sophia felt a strange calm come over her.

Everything had finally become clear.

They had not simply manipulated her.

They had built an entire false reality around her.

And now that reality was collapsing.

Sophia scheduled the fundraising meeting.

Marcus believed the deal would proceed.

Helen believed the asset transfers were secure.

Claire believed Sophia was preparing to expose everything.

Nobody knew that Sophia had arranged something else.

The day before the meeting, Sophia called Marcus.

“We need to talk.”

He looked nervous.

“About what?”

“The fundraising agreement.”

“What about it?”

“I've decided to sign.”

Marcus smiled.

“That is great news.”

“Yes.”

She looked directly into his eyes.

“But I want you and your mother there.”

His smile disappeared for half a second.

Then returned.

“Of course.”

The next morning, everyone gathered in the conference room.

Marcus.

Helen.

Sophia.

The investors.

The attorneys.

The financial advisors.
